The Philadelphia 76ers may be adding another championship-tested veteran to their revamped roster.
According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and the Memphis Grizzlies are negotiating a contract buyout. Once the agreement is finalized, the veteran wing intends to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers, reuniting with LeBron James.
The move would reunite Caldwell-Pope and James for the first time since helping lead the Los Angeles Lakers to the 2020 NBA championship. Widely regarded as one of the league’s premier 3-and-D role players during his prime, Caldwell-Pope has also won an NBA title with the Denver Nuggets in 2023.
Philadelphia has been aggressive in surrounding its star core with experienced veterans, and adding Caldwell-Pope would give the Sixers another proven perimeter defender and floor spacer capable of contributing in meaningful playoff minutes.
Caldwell-Pope spent last season with the Grizzlies after arriving in the blockbuster trade that sent Desmond Bane to the Orlando Magic. While his offensive production dipped, his experience, defensive versatility, and championship pedigree continue to make him an attractive option for a contender.
If the buyout is completed, Caldwell-Pope would become the latest veteran to join a Philadelphia team that has rapidly transformed into one of the NBA’s most intriguing contenders following LeBron James’ arrival.
